Five medals for England teams in Calvisano

England’s six Men’s and Women’s Opens teams had weekends to remember in Calvisano.

England’s Women occupied all the podium places at the end of three days of intense action. England Phoenix and England Mavericks took their round-robin form – both teams recording six wins from their seven matches and a 2-2 draw against each other – into the playoff matches, where they beat France and England Storm respectively.

Honours went to England Phoenix in the final, winning 5-3.

Meanwhile England Storm won a thrilling contest against France, 4-3.

On the Men’s side the three England teams topped the table, with Mavericks pipping Storm and Phoenix to the top spot, and all three teams drawing against each other.

Mavericks and Storm then powered their way into the final, beating Ireland and Phoenix respectively in the semi-finals, and an early two-try lead gave Mavericks the foundation for a 10-8 final result.

Ireland had the better of the Bronze medal match, beating Phoenix 10-8.

Elsewhere France beat Belgium in the Mixed Open final, where England did not have any competing teams.
