Manchester keep up the Charge in Development NTS

Manchester Chargers stayed ahead of their rivals with a third Cup title from three Steeden Development National Touch Series tournaments in Norfolk.

The north-west outfit maintained their consistent record with another dominant day in Wymondham, on the outskirts of Norwich.

However they had to do it the hard way after coming second to Thames Valley Vikings in the pool stages. Nevertheless the Chargers regrouped in the afternoon to overcome Peterborough Tropics, Norwich Rebels and Yorkshire Thorns in the knockout stages.

With two rounds to come in Cheltenham and Derby the Chargers have extended their lead at the top of the table to 18 points over Norwich Rebels.

Other winners were St Albans Gold (Plate), Canterbury (Bowl), host club Wymondham (Shield) who took home silverware from their first ever NTS event, and Nottingham (Salver).

There were two different Cup winners in the second round of the SPORTTAPE Emerging Men’s and Women’s NTS, which was played on the Sunday at the same venue.

Surrey G:Force lifted the Men’s Cup, beating Wymondham in the final, a worthy final for the only two clubs who went through the round robin stages unbeaten.

In the Women’s Cup it was Revolution who had the perfect day, scoring a whopping 35 touchdowns in their five round robin matches en route to a final in which they saw off Nottingham.

There was consolation for the Midlands club, who took home the Plate in the Men’s competition.

Both the Steeden Development NTS and SPORTTAPE Emerging Men’s and Women’s NTS head to Cheltenham for their next rounds on the weekend of July 20th and 21st.

Revolution Women will head to Cheltenham two points clear at the top of the table from Chester, with Nottingham a further three points behind.

It is equally tight in the Men’s competition, Nottingham just two points ahead of Crewe and Nantwich, with Surrey G:Force six points further behind.

The Development NTS is fully booked, but you can put your team onto the waiting list by emailing events@englandtouch.org.uk
