I was honoured to take on the role of President of the England Touch Association in November 2008, building on the progress made by the prior executive committeeÃs which has seen England rise to being the 3rd largest touch nation in the world, with 21 member leagues and over 10,000 registered players.
One of my first tasks was to increase the number of people involved in driving the sport forward and as such I have added some director roles to compliment, expand and strengthen the ETA executive committee. The new directors are all hugely enthusiastic about developing touch in England and will help to continue to develop and drive England Touch.
My second action was to initiate the compilation of this strategic plan to lay out our goals to the World Cup in 2011, with a plan on how to deliver these goals. This strategic plan gives us as a committee, and everyone involved in the sport, a clear focus and direction for the next 3 years. Our aim is to develop every aspect of Touch, and this report elaborates on our plans within the following streams: Participation; Events and tournaments; National squad; Coaching; Refereeing; Membership; Communication; Finance; and Compliance.
Some of the goals are easily achievable, while other will require lots of time and hard work. I am sure that we will be able to achieve all of these with everyoneÃs support.
To govern, promote, encourage, foster, develop and extend the
sport of Touch in England
I would urge everyone involved in Touch to support the ETA and the development of Touch in England in anyway you can, no matter how small – teach your friends how to play Touch, talk to someone who stops to watch a match about the sport, help with a development day.
The ETA exec and new directors have worked incredibly hard preparing this plan, and I would like to thank them all. However this is just the start, we now need to put these plans into action and I thank you all in advance for your support.
Clare Gregor
