Nationals success

Torrential downpours and a last minute venue change did little to dampen the spirits or spoil some top touch action as the first ever Nationals took place at the weekend.

Played over Saturday and Sunday, men’s and women’s teams from regions around the country battled it out in a round robin of play.

Competing were the North West WarriorsMidland TigersWest WildcatsSouth West SaxonsSouth East Taipans and South East Sharks.

Games were played over 40 minutes, and offered all the thrills and skills of top level Touch.

After a tough weekend’s competition, congratulations went to the Taipans who took the Men’s Nationals title with a 6:5 win over the Sharks.

In the Women’s division, Sharks beat the Taipans 5:2.

“A big thank you to Bridgnorth RFC for being so welcoming. Special mention to Ian George and Tim Thomas.

“They are now keen for Touch there and I think its a lovely location for a summer tournament next year.

“I’d also like to add a special thank you to the medical teams who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to keep everyone safe, well and where necessary patched up.”

Finally, thanks to all the referees who helped make the day run smoothly too!

Nationals on the Doorstep

After months of planning, training and anticipation the inaugural England Touch Nationals competition takes place this weekend in the excellent surroundings of the Lilleshall National Sports Centre. The ‘Touch Nationals’ are a two day tournament that are being used as the selection trials for the England National Squads to compete in the forthcoming European Championships in September in Italy.

The country has been split into seven regions and players from each of these have been working hard over the last few months to be selected to represent their region and develop their playing skills ahead of this weekend’s Nationals competition. Each of the newly formed regions will bring their strongest men’s and women’s teams to compete against each other for the title of ‘Nationals Champions 2012’ and to compete for a place in the England Touch Euro’s squads.

This will be the first time England Touch has attempted to select an England squad in such a way and it is hoped that this exposure to higher level coaching and competition will be invaluable for future player development.

The anticipation for the event and buzz around the Nationals has been growing for some time with all players and teams keenly looking forward to the weekend and testing themselves against the other regional teams.

Spectators are more than welcome to attend the competition and support their regions and for those of you who can’t make it the results can be followed live HERE

However, if you have a legitimate reason for not being involved in a regional side (e.g. injury or working abroad during the trialling and preparation period) but you would like to be considered for a national squad please contact Mike@englandtouch.org.uk.

As a result of this contact you may be invited to attend the Masters’ trial on the 28th of April in Nottingham to demonstrate your ability. Please note that  for players wishing to play for an Open side, those who have played at the nationals will be preferred to later triallists at final selection if players are of similar ability

Become a Level 2 Referee – Sunday, April 15 course

Are you a Level 1 Referee?

Are you wanting to progress to the next level?

Do you want to be a better referee?

Do you want to learn new skills and meet new people?

Are you looking to attend the Euro’s?

Or  .. are you a referee who is looking for a refresher course?

If the answer is yes to any of those questions, or if you are looking at getting involved in refereeing, then this course if for you!

The ETA is holding a Level 2 course in Reading and we’d like to see as many of you there as possible.

Details of the course:

Date:

    • Sunday 15th April 2012

Time:

    • Arrive 9am for 9:30am start

Duration:

    • Full Day

    • We will not be awarding any upgrade badges at the course and the on-field assessment will need to take place at a later event.

If you are thinking of attending the Euro’s, please note that there is a minimum Level 2 requirement for referees.

We have some great presenters, who are focused on maximising your learning potential and ensuring the day is fun and interactive so you get the most out of it.

As an added bonus – the first CTS event is on the Saturday 14th April in Reading (same venue as above) and I’d like to encourage as many referees as possible to attend this and then attend the Level 2 course on the Sunday.  Our course presenters will also be present at the CTS as referee coaches, so come along, get some practice, feedback, and learn some news tips, tricks and skills and most of all have a great weekend full of touch!
