Chargers Comp Kickstarts the Season

Due to popular demand, Manchester Chargers again ran their Annual (3rd) ‘Invitational Touch Tournament’. It was the biggest and best yet, even if they do say so themselves! Teams travelled from as far away as Switzerland and Spain to be part of what they’re calling ‘The Biggest Club Touch Tournament in Europe“, even the Manchester weather played on their side!

The event tied in nicely for the newly created regional teams to have some good competition before heading towards the nationals in April. A Social Mixed competition ran along side the Men’s and Women’s comp too, so there was something for everyone!

There was some great dynamic and skilful Touch on display in the men’s, women’s and mixed competitions and the numerous nail-biting drop-offs ramped up the excitement too!

Calling all Level 1 referee’s

We have permission to hold a Level 2 Referee course which is fantastic news!

This is being run by two great referees both Black Badges and I would encourage all who are looking for upgrades to Level 2 this year to attend this. There hasn’t been a Level 2 for a little while and this is a great training and development opportunity.  This is purposefully being held before the England Nationals Competition, all NTS dates and the Euro’s.

Please read the blurb from the ETA website regarding the course:

Level Two
Ideally interested people will have attended and passed the Level 1 course before attending a Level 2 course. Also referees will need to have done a season of refereeing prior to the course. This is a full one day course and will consist of a presentation, interactive sessions, theory & practical assessment (either that day or at a later stage). Those who pass the course will receive a European Level 2 certificate and badge.

To register your interest in attending any of these courses, please let me know (refs@englandtouch.org.uk).

We also have a supply of Acme Thunderer 58.5 Whistles and wrist straps available for sale at courses, tournaments and by emailing me if you’d like one.

Touch Europe Kit

If anyone would like to order any European Referee kit (off-field yellow shirt and blue shorts) that is being used as uniform for all tournaments in England and in Europe.  Please see the below files and send through an order form.

The Nationals are coming!

Squads around England are being selected as players prepare themselves to represent their region in the first ever England Touch Nationals competition.

Played in the excellent Lilleshall surroundings on the weekend of April 21/22 the Touch Nationals will be the first time England Touch has attempted to select an England squad in such a way.

The top performing players at the Touch Nationals will not only make their regional team proud, but will also stand a good chance of representing their country in the European Championships, being held in Italy in September.

Disciplinary and Advisory Panel

England Touch have formed a ‘Disciplinary and Advisory Panel’ for any future matters which might arise. Currently squads and teams are very player led often with a variety of behaviours, rules and activities which are non ETA sanctioned and often passing un-challenged.

To this end, we have put together a panel of senior England players / committee members, so that any serious issues can be resolved independently.

We are trying to move England Touch away from it’s traditional roots of being a group in which no-one answers to anyone.

Any decisions made by the panel about players, coaches, squads etc will be supported by ETA as a whole through the proper channels.

We will be formulating the disciplinary process formally and have a system in place for April when teams are selected.

The panel consists of:

  1. Caroline Evans-Jones
  2. Carly Heselwood
  3. Carle Skein
  4. Jeremy How
  • Technical Director (Paul Farrington) – Casting vote if required

Thanks

2013 FIT World Club Touch Tournament – USA

FIT is undertaking preliminary planning for the 2013 FIT World Club Touch Tournament to be delivered in the USA in October.

Hosted by Touch USA, supported by Disney, ESPN and Wide World of Sports, with a flexible package including accommodation, internal transport, etc that will be very reasonable.  The location is the Disney Sports Water Park which would be set up with 10 x Touch playing fields. The Disney Sports Group are seeking indicative numbers and FIT are seeking our (England Touch Clubs) response (without commitment) as to whether clubs from your country would likely participate – any how many?

Look here for more info on venue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN_Wide_World_of_Sports_Complex

The Disney Group have a sliding scale with regards to facility cost and the number of participants. This is the matrix:

Packages Sold Facility Rental Fee
0 – 99 $30,000+ Applicable Taxes
100 – 199 $26,000+ Applicable Taxes
200 – 299 $22,000+ Applicable Taxes
300 – 399 $18,000+ Applicable Taxes
400 – 499 $14,000+ Applicable Taxes
500 – 599 $10,000+ Applicable Taxes
600 – 699 $7,500+ Applicable Taxes
700+ *$0

*Should the event attract 700 participants there would be no facility cost.

FIT will shortly develop a more comprehensive survey on the event, however they seek your urgent indication at this time – in the next few days – as to our potential support for such an event and whether you believe our club teams would be interested in participating.

Please comment below if your club would be interested.
