New High Performance Director Announced

Great news, this week Michael Abromowitz (Abro) has agreed to become High Performance Director for England Touch, this role, and Claire McIntosh’s as High Performance Manager is in line with the australian’s set up.

For those who know him, I’m sure you’ll agree Abro is a hugely valuable addition to the team to help our elite sides and coaching move forward. His focus will be on the open sides but will be available as support to all coaches.

Invitational Bonfire Touch Tournament

Oxford Touch are keen to ramp up the Touch scene in their city and are organising a little winter warmer, “Invitational Bonfire Touch Tournament”, on Saturday 6th November. They are aiming for 12 teams to attend and the response so far has been very positive from some of the best teams in the country planned to be present. The planned set up is 2 groups of 6, playing simultaneously on 3 pitches – totalling 10 pool games (5 per team) + 2 semis and a grand final.

All matches planned to be finished by the time it gets dark (3.30 pm!), food will be served whilst watching the autumn rugby internationals in the club house (and a guided tour night out in Oxford for those who want to stay!)

Referees, we need you! In order to make this a great inaugural competition, Oxford need you! With the 2011 World Cup coming up we hope you would like to get in as much reff’ing practice as possible and it will be a great chance to train and learn from the best around. OTC will be offering the usual good food and hospitality, plus £35 to cover your costs. Hope you can make it.

If you can help, please contact Joelene on info@oxfordtouchrugby.co.uk

Elite England Squads

2011 World Cup – Edinburgh.

Following the successful trials, with a record turn out of over 150 new players, the following squads have been named. The standard was exceptionally high this year and the choices that had to be made were incredibly difficult. These squads will be cut to the ‘World Cup 16’ at the end of February after a number of squad training sessions. This is the start of an incredible journey and the World Cup in Scotland in 2011 is yours and your team’s chance to achieve something special that only a few have achieved, so take this opportunity and give it everything you’ve got.

Check out the Squad selections in the ‘Elite Squads’ Section.

As part of the growth of Touch in this country, England Touch are continuing to expand the game in all areas and over the next year exciting plans are afoot to grow our existing National competitions (the NTS series), promote the development of Touch with a new ‘Social Touch Series’ and hold a series of Development Days with coaching from qualified England Touch coaches.  Keep an eye on the England Touch website for further information on these.

Sad News

It is with great regret, that we have to report the untimely death of Paul Gamblin. Paul aged 54 was the Percy Park Under 10’s lead coach and a prominent member of the Percy Park Pirates Touch Team.

Paul collapsed at an Touch training session at Cambridge on Saturday 16th October 2010, and was taken to hospital, but unfortunately he could not be revived.

Our sympathies are with his wife Frauke, his three children and all his friends and family at this sad time.
